Celebrating Black History Month

This February, the Reds join the celebration of Black History Month to honor the accomplishments of African-Americans throughout history.

In Reds Country, this is the perfect opportunity to salute the contributions of so many talented Black players to the rich tradition of Reds baseball. We hope fans join this celebration in a number of ways throughout the month.

• Reds Hall of Fame Education Manager Ken Freeman will conduct virtual school visits to discuss baseball’s role in the civil rights movement and the integration in the game.
• The Reds Community Fund will host a virtual panel discussion on diversity initiatives.

Members of the Reds Black Professionals Business Resource Group will participate in the My Brother’s Keeper Ohio Leadership Series on Saturday, February 13 sharing experiences working in sports management. Reds guests include Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin, Vice President of Technology Brian Keys, Vice President of People & Culture Victor Livisay and Director of Promotional Events & Player Relations Corey Hawthorne.

My Brother’s Keeper was started by President Barack Obama as a national initiative to address the opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color, and to ensure all young people reach their full potential. Senator Sherrod Brown helped launch the statewide coalition of My Brother’s Keeper in Ohio in 2018.
